After many years in development, Warner Pictures Animation and New Line Cinema A date for the release of “Hello Kitty” has been announced for July 21, 2028.
This announcement came in an Instagram post from the studio on Wednesday. “Hello Hollywood 🎀🌴🎬 #HelloKittyMovie is coming to theaters July 21, 2028!”
In a statement about the movie, the studio stated, “The film marks Hello Kitty’s Hollywood theatrical debut as Hello Kitty and her friends embark on a cinematic adventure sure to delight audiences of all ages.”
The film is being directed by Leo Matsuda, with the most recent script being written by Dana Fox (“Wicked”). Matsuda has directed a short called “Inner Workings” and worked as a storyboard artist on “Zootopia” and “Wreck-It Ralph.”
Producer Beau Flynn of New Line Cinema spent almost a decade trying to get the rights of the character from creator Shintaro Tsuji. New Line Cinema eventually got the rights in early 2019 and announced the film later that year.
The plot of the film is unclear. We do know that Shinataro also gave rights to a few other classic characters, such as Gudetama
, My Melody, and Little Stars, so they can be expected to be in the film. It is also unclear if Hello Kitty will speak in the film. She has no mouth and is known for not speaking in her many adventures.
