A six-page letter to Congress on Saturday reveals a list of over 300 "politically exposed persons" and government officials named in the Jeffrey Epstein files. This comes after much backlash on the DOJ for "over-redacting" the files.
The DOJ provided the names of individuals who appear at least once in the millions of released documents. Notable names released include President Donald Trump, former Presidents Barrack Obama and Bill Clinton, as well as tech figures such as Jeff Bezos and Peter Thiel.
The list lacks much context however. The DOJ clarified that the names appear in "wide varieties of contexts," ranging from people who directly communicated with Epstein or those who were simply mentioned in media reports included in the files.
The list also includes several long-deceased figures such as Marilyn Monroe, Elvis Presley, and Ronald Regan, leading to criticism that the list is overly broad and "muddying the waters".
